Japanese banks are confusing

I just moved to a small city in japan a couple months ago. My employers have been helping me but I can tell they are growing frustrated because most things aren’t going right. I have a phone now with a hotspot, but the hotspot doesn’t work, I don’t have wifi because they’ve been busy. They set up my bank account but now I can’t set up thr app or make payments to my American bank account. I have over $1,000 in American bills each month and I’m about to run out of money this week unless I can get help… is there an easier way to set up a banking app or send money to my American account without using a bank?!?!?! Help!!!

  1. You could open a wise account. Then you should be able to send money to the US easier than using ordinary Japanese banks

  2. Wise is the answer. Sending money internationally via a Japanese bank will incur large fees.

  3. >make payments to my American bank account.

You can’t make payments to American accounts directly from your Japanese bank.

You’re going to need to search for information on this yourself, regarding the bank you’re using. Browse through their website using Google translate. Search for any YouTube videos explaining how to set up / use the app and ATM.

Living here (especially in a small town), you will need to be a lot more proactive about fixing things yourself and finding information yourself than you’re probably used to.
