Does anybody know any good spots for 2-3 day backpacking trails/hikes in northern Japan? I live near Fukushima and I was wondering if there are any good trails nearby that I could spend a weekend on. Everything nearby seems to be focused on day trips, I would like to do something where I can hike in for a day, setup a tent, then head back out the next day.

Bandai Asahi National Park (磐梯朝日国立公園).
Since you’re in Fukushima, I wouldn’t consider Niigata or Nagano “north” from your perspective, but we’ve got some great hiking spots. My good friend runs a little YouTube channel where he makes beautiful hiking videos of trails in the Niigata and Nagano area. Maybe it can help you find your next hike!
Fully recommend Ep. 9: 裏巻機渓谷 (Uramakihatakeikoku in Minamiuonuma, Niigata) and Ep. 7: 美ヶ原高原 (Utsukushigahara, between Matsumoto and Ueda, Nagano)

Oze National Park. Unique and beautiful.
Iide-san or Asahi-dake around Yamagata are good hard 1-nighters. I know some mountains don’t allow tents but they have lots of space in mountain huts
