PSA: No Coin Lockers in Fukuoka and maybe elsewhere? May 15-21st

No coin lockers in all of Fukuoka station. From the Google translated flier:
[Notice of suspension of coin lockers] This coin locker cannot be used from May 15th to May 21st, 2023 due to vigilance and security associated with the G7 Summit. From May 15, 2023, it will be closed sequentially. We apologize for the inconvenience, but we ask for your understanding and cooperation. Thank you very much. [Notice of Coin-Locker Service Suspension] Due to increased security activity in line with the the G7 summit in Japan, these coin lockers will temporarily not be in service from May 15 to May 21, 2023.

The G7 summit isn’t even in this city so this could be nationwide? Unsure.

Pro-tip: I saw coinlockers at the canal city mall not too far away from the station. I haven’t checked to see if they are still available, but it’s walkable.

Godspeed!

  1. Most of major train stations in Japan (and any on Tokaido-Sanyo route) suspended locker service for G7 summit.

  2. Well fuck this is throwing off my plans. Can’t seem to get a takuhaibin or a locker while I bike shimanami Kaido

  3. You can still use your hotel’s checked luggage service if they offer it. I used the robotic hotel service since 9am and check in at 3pm

  4. Malls still have coin lockers available (just used the ones at the Aeon in Kyoto). Also Takkyubin is still up and running so id recommend just packing light and sending your stuff ahead.

  5. In Tokyo at the moment, lockers in major stations are closed but it looked like lockers in smaller stations and other parts of the city are still available.
