3 weeks summer trip Japan

Hi guys, I will be flying from Cairns into Osaka on the 12th of July and will travel around Japan for 3 weeks. Many people say the summer is the worst time to visit Japan because of the heat. That’s why I’m looking for some alternate destinations like some natural swimming holes/waterfalls or beaches that I can visit in between the main destinations like Kyoto, Tokyo etc. and which route will be the best to go about it?

I am also thinking about flying either north to Hokkaido or south to Okinawa. or would 3 weeks be too short to visit these places?

  1. If you live in Cairns you’ll be fine. Yes Japan can get quite hot and sticky in their summer but nothing that you have not experienced yourself.

I’m from Sydney and it did rain a fair bit on some days and it was humid, but it’s not a deal breaker.

I’ve been in summer, autumn and spring. Autumn then Spring then summer for me but it’s still good.

I’m yet to get to Hokkaido, but given I hate the cold and not a skier, Hokkaido may well be a good destination during summer.

I’d like to go to Okinawa but not had the chance just yet. No direct flights is a hindrance.
