Itinerary Check/Recs – First Japan Trip – 24 days – July – With 6.5 Yr Old

Been following this sub for some time and along with my own research I have compiled a rough draft of our itinerary and I think it is ready for some feedback/suggestions. Any and all will help.

For context, we are traveling from Texas and while we don’t enjoy hot and humid weather, it is nothing new to us and better than hot and dry weather.

This is our first trip to Japan. We have traveled quite a bit as a family and looking forward to all the sensory overload 🙂

July 10 : Tokyo

* Arrive in Tokyo
* Check into Hotel
* Exchange Money
* Try to get tickets to UVERworld concert for 7/29
* Dinner and sleep

July 11 -14th: Full Days in Japan

* At least 1 day will be DisneySea
* Other POI (ordered in importance)
* Shibuya Sky
* Ryu no Miyako
* Akihabara
* New York Bar (Will be getting a babysitter for at least 1 night out, maybe 2)
* teamLab Planets
* Golf Street
* Asakusa District

July 16th: Nagoya

* Train to Nagoya
* Check out Nagoya Castle
* Attend Grand Sumo Tournament

July 17th: Magoya

* Ghibli Park (Warehouse Only, 12:00pm)
* On the fence about staying the night to see the Firework Festival at Nagoya Port

July 18th: Kyoto

* If we didn’t already leave Nagoya we would checkout early and head to Kyoto
* Fushimi Inari then Monkey Park

July 19th: Kyoto

* Romantic Train ride and Hozugawa River Boat Ride

July 20th: Kyoto/Osaka

* Free day (maybe day trip to Nara, maybe head to Osaka)

**This is where the trip plans get fuzzy/flexible.**

We want to check out Osaka but not sure how long to stay. The most important thing is I want to at least stay 2 days in Hiroshima and make it back to Tokyo for UVERworld on the 29th. So that leaves July 21-28th to split between Osaka, Hiroshima and ??? We even considered Okinawa but it doesn’t really interest us as much as something like a ferry to Busan would.

July 21st – 23rd or 24th: Osaka

* POIs
* Dontonbori
* Umeda Sky
* Katsuo-ji Temple
* TeamLab Botanical Gardens
* Aquarium

July 29th

* UVERworld concert if we can get tickets on the first day in Tokyo
* If we couldn’t then we may not come back to Tokyo this early since we do not leave until late evening on

July 30th – August 1st: Tokyo

* If we don’t have to come back to Tokyo for the concert we might not but if we do then we would probably just do just day trips around Tokyo

We plan on using the luggage forwarding as much as possible. So yea what do ya’ll think are we missing something? Is there an area of Japan we should check out that is not listed? We plan to see shrines as they present themselves to us but no intention of going out of our way for them. Would love to spend some time at a beach but that doesn’t seem like an option unless we head to Okinawa or Busan.

TIA for the time and input.

  1. If your 6.5 year old likes Lego there is a theme part at Nagoya, so you can spend another day there for it.

    In summer have a look at going to Takayama and the surrounding alps. It will be a bit cooler and a nice change of scenery.

    If you want to go to the beach look at Shirahama, its south of Osaka so maybe can do a detour there.
