I’m half Japanese and American by nationality. I don’t want to give up my citizenship, but considering the state of politics and gun violence, my husband and I are considering permanently moving to Japan. We are about to hit our one year mark but I’m on a Instructor visa and he’s my dependent. As far as I can see online, I am eligible to apply for PR as a child of a japanese national (I’m second generation) as long as I have resided in Japan for 1 year. All I would need is a guarantor, certificates of employment and residence, and family registry. Does anyone have any experience with this process or horror stories? Just trying to gauge what to expect of any challenges that may arise. Thank you!

~~Hold up…wouldn’t being the child of a Japanese national make you a Japanese national? I’m not a lawyer or anything, but…can someone who knows more please chime in?~~
Edit: I have been corrected.
I came to Japan on a Child of Japanese National visa. Applied for PR about 2 years later, was approved in a few weeks. I needed my parents’ koseki and certificate of employment, but I can’t recall needing a guarantor.
