Continuing Japanese learning

I have been learning Japanese through my university for two semesters at elementary level and I have managed to average a C each semester. I am proud of myself considering I was a junior in CS at the time. The problem is my sensei has the worst attitude and the learning environment is toxic and I cannot tolerate her talking condescending to me anymore. I’m also 28, so it is not so easy for me to make Japanese friends at the university. I feel like I’m on a good learning path and I don’t want it to end just bc I’m not learning through the school. How can I continue my Japanese learning journey? How can I meet Japanese ppl for conversational practices? What are the best learning resources? I’ve completed the Genki 3rd Edition.

  1. Well this sub focuses on self-study so you should find something you like here.

For textbooks you can go to Genki II next.

For vocab lots of us (most?) use some program called Anki, which is a flashcard program (free).

For reading you have to start reading what you like. After Genki II you can give a crack at that.

For talking you can try iTalki, it’s not free but you can get a tutor there.

For listening there is nihongo con teppei which is on youtube, spotify, etc.
