I heard that the income tax is a flat 20.42% for foreigners on the working holiday visa but, is it the same for when you changed to an instructor visa? This is way too high.
As far as I know (doing an internship here atm) they only care about the total length of your stay. Everything under 1 year, presumably including working holiday, will be taxed with those 20,42%(The taxation rate for “Non-residents – 非居住者”) – I know it’s just too high..
The funny thing is you don’t need to actually have passed the 1 year mark to fall under the normal taxation rate (around 10%) as long as your visa or a combination of those confirm a stay of over 1 year.
Let’s say you do a working holiday for 8 months and get a 6 months internship with a 特定活動 Visa. At the start of your internship you would be taxed with 10% because you’ve been here already for 8 months + presumably 6 months. (That’s how my intern colleagues which only have been here for half a year are taxed right now.)
I’m not really sure about the constructor visa tho, sorry. :/
