Americans with BA in Elementary Education from WGU working in Japan (TEFL)

I’m looking into preparation for teaching English as a second language in Japan. So far, I have seen that one essentially only needs a Bachelor’s degree (in any field) and TEFL or TESOL certification…among some other things that aren’t necessary to specify.
*I am specifically asking if anyone has attended Western Governors University with BA in Elementary Education and been able to work in Japan teaching English.

If you have not attended WGU, I would still like some input from those who have received a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and successfully worked in Japan.

Why “specifically” WGU? Is there something wrong with WGU’s accreditation since any accredited BA with let you teach in Japan with or **without** TESL certificate?

  3. I’m confused by what your goals are here.

Are you planning on becoming an ALT? If so, a degree in Elementary Education is wild overkill, as is a TEFL/TESOL certificate. The qualifications for an ALT are “***any*** degree and a pulse”.

Are you planning on becoming an *actual* teacher in the Japanese school system? That is something that is staggeringly difficult, bordering on impossible to do. For a lot of reasons that we’ve discussed here a bunch of times before foreigners don’t get hired as real teachers in the Japanese public school system.
