I moved into new apartment few weeks back and i keep getting previous tenants mail not one but like 3 different people mail do i call the companies and tell them they don’t live here
Either go to the post office with the letters and tell them the people doesn’t live there, or put a sticky note with “wrong delivery” (誤配達) and put in a mailbox nearby.
No need to tell the companies directly.
Write “宛先の居住者は転居済み” on it, and drop it in the nearest mailbox. You can also print that on a sheet a bunch of times, and just tape it to the envelope/postcard.
This is required by law – you can’t just toss it or open it.
If you do open it by mistake, you need to tape it shut, and add a note that it was opened mistakenly (誤って開封した), then follow the procedure above.
The above only applies to postal mail – if you get something via takkyubin or something, you need to contact the delivery company and tell them the address is wrong.
