Golf in the shonan area

I was in California over GW and played some golf with some friend and realized I really like it. I had never really played before and it was a blast. Would like to get into it here now. I live in the shonan area (more specifically near Tsujido) and I’m a complete beginner.

Any tips regarding the etiquette/process here? I’d love to just go solo until I have more confidence, but from what I’ve heard that isn’t really an option at most courses here.

I’m interested in the 9-hole course in chigasaki. Has anyone played there before?

  1. Solo might be difficult at first. Many courses do not have a pick-up group in the starting order. You mentioned a 9-hole course, I’m guessing it’s a riverbed course (河川敷) ? If so, they might have early morning or twilight hours where you can go and play and then pay afterwards.

If you look up [Value Golf](https://www.valuegolf.co.jp/one.cfm) they do have a place where you and some other single players can sign up together. These are generally for the typical golf courses.

Also, there might be a local golf association. If you join, they sometimes can have competitions (unlimited handicap calculated on the day). Usually they are followed by drinking sessions that go well into the night too!

If you ever find yourself in the Tohoku area, feel free to hit me up for a round of golf!

  2. I think Chigasaki Golf club (9 hole course) has solo play. I’ve played there a few times (recently been playing 18 holes) and it’s a good place to learn. In the evenings, I’ve seen older gentlemen carrying and pushing carts to play. Go during the day and they have this motorized caddy that follows the path next to the course (but not into the fairways).

    Best of luck!
