I said arigatou to someone online, he replied with “aridesu” – what does that mean?

1. honestly no idea it just looks like ari, (aru) to exist and desu maybe they didnt understand what you said or maybe its a type of slang if you cant find it a word in any dictonary search it in jlect.com it has some slang words

2. Most likely they were just saying ‘thank you’ in return.

   In proper classroom grammar, it would mean ‘it is possible’, but the phrase can be (and in this context likely is) a contraction of ありがとうございます … or perhaps really more a contraction of ありがとう followed by です since あり by itself would be so short as to be a bit rude and a bit ambiguous.

3. Yeah “ari” is a somewhat newer slang, just a short way of saying arigatou. (Like saying “sup”) Especially popular in like mmorpg circles. It used to be that people would say “aza” or “azasu” but I guess this is the latest thing lol.

   With the desu, I wonder if he was correcting you? As in, you say “arigatou” and he’s like “it’s ari”

4. I think it’s a combination of arigatou and desu.

   Looks more like some 2ch slang.

5. We always shorten words, but we shorten even more when we’re online.
   Aridesu means ありがとうです, otsu and otsudesu are both おつかれさまです and lastly, otsuari is おつかれさま&ありがとう.

6. Arigatou means “all men must die” and the standard response is “aridesu” which means “all men must serve”.
