College in Tokyo

Basically to make a long story short, I got a little less than a year life in the military. I’m was thinking about using my GI Bill in Tokyo. Not like a language school or anything but a regular university. I know the GI Bill gets shaky with tuition and housing allowance when over seas. Is there anyway you can still get housing in Tokyo? Is there a certain university that takes the GI Bill over there? Just lots of questions about moving in general. Thought the best place would be Reddit since you can’t really ask people in your command since they haven’t experienced that etc.

  1. I’m not sure, I’d just directly contact admissions from those universities you’re looking at and ask if they accept it.

  2. >Is there a certain university that takes the GI Bill over there?

The VA has a search tool you can use (top right has the button to change country):
    https://inquiry.vba.va.gov/weamspub/searchInst.do#content-area

It lists 57 universities that accept the GI Bill, including 4 “yellow ribbon” schools.

Just remember that universities in Japan as a whole are ranked lower than US universities, and English programs in specific in Japan are generally below national average in terms of quality.

    Good luck!

  3. Temple University will accept the GI Bill and is one of the bigger English speaking universities in Tokyo with a large military community. There are others but I am not sure on them as far as the GI bill is concerned.

PM me if you have any questions regarding being a being a vet in Japan.

  4. This might be better for a military or veterans sub, since people there probably have experience using the GI Bill. Just a thought.
