My work visa will expire within a month. In an attempt to remain in Japan, I would like to job search as long as possible.
Visiting Tokyo Immigration Centre in Minato, they said I could apply for a temporary visitor visa for 30 days and it would apply immediately, even if I did so on the last day. While I plan to do it a few days before the last day, I am now concerned about other things.
As soon as I change I will lose residence status, which my bank knows about. With the new bank laws where they want to reconfirm Residential status constantly, I am worried about my funds being frozen while I am still dealing with utilities, moving out and even just having a hotel.
Also, won’t I have issues when I go to the town office to deal with taxation and moving out? Should I do this before I change my visa?
If anyone has been through the process recently since the rule changes, please let me know how it works.

Sorry to be negative.
It’s going to be hard to finalise a new job contract and new visa application in those 30 days.
Most importantly, are temporary visas extensible? I think the purpose of the temporary visa is to allow you to prepare to leave so on the last day you will be on the way to the airport with your affairs all settled.
If you end up needing a couple more days it could be tricky.
