Kishida flew down to the G7 in Hiroshima

Is anyone complaining about that, taking a whole 747 rather than a few hours on the bullet train or even just a smaller, more green plane? Climate change is one of the main topics for this weekend.

  1. Probably something for security reasons too? Considering he was recently attacked a few weeks ago.

  2. Given that the last prime minister was assassinated, security for their current prime minister might be more important at the moment.

  3. Just wait until you here what bozos and wackjobs flew from the US to Japan.

  4. They don’t have 747’s anymore. They are 777, much cleaner, greener and more fuel efficient.

  5. Getting there isn’t the problem.

The biggest reason is to have the plane there, in case he or someone needs to get out of the area. Despite telling people to travel elsewhere, it is going to be crowded with everyone trying to get a glimpse of the event.

This is an unprecedented event at a time with relatively high tensions across Asia.

Way more secure than a train.

  6. Fewer loons with homemade guns and pipe bombs flying around in the sky.

  7. Certainly the correct choice to use the plane.

    * Status symbol. He’s the host; he’s leading the second-largest free economy in the world; he has a cool plane. If everyone else shows up on their Air Force One equivalents and he took the commuter line, it’s not the right image.
    * Security. Japan’s had a successful assassination and an attempted assassination in the last two years or whatever it’s been. Much harder to blow up the airplane than to fuck with the train tracks.
    * As someone else smartly pointed out, logistical flexibility. Hiroshima is going to be a total logistical mess, and having the plane there gives a lot more optionality to get out suddenly, etc., then not having the plane there.

Making symbolic gestures toward climate or being a man of the people is all well and good in the right context, but this isn’t that context.

  8. Schedule an empty bullet train.

Close down Tokyo station while he boards.

Clear every platform between there and Hiroshima as it goes past.

I think that a small plane out of a private / small airport is probably better.

They could use a Honda Jet though, they are cool 😎😎😎.

  9. Bullet trains are dangerous and full of violence. Didn’t you see the Brad Pitt documentary?

  10. Bro, given the circumstances, a Japanese PM is 20x more likely to ever consider some clean energy transport option than any US president ever will.

What’s up with these attention seeking reddit posts?

Also you can’t compare some generic jet to air force one, if you really wanna compare carbon footprints.
