Steam ironing in Tokyo or 110-220v transformer

Hi

Me and wifey have been backpacking across Japan for 3 weeks now and going for a photoshoot in Tokyo next week. Our clothes are wrinkled af. I wonder if there is any place in I can iron a suit and a dress. I have my travel steam iron with me, but it doesn’t work with voltage of 100-110, so I either need a transformer (would it even work?) or a place that provides a service.

Thank you in advance!

  1. Yes, laundry services are widely offered. Your hotel might have an iron too.

Why are you traveling with an iron that doesn’t work?

  2. Hang up your clothes in the bathroom while you take a long hot shower, smooth creases by hand. Also use fabric refresher, it helps with wrinkles. Most hotels have a spray bottle in the room.

Most hotels have irons, if not in the room ask the front desk. Japan like to look sharp.

  3. Travel power converters are not recommended for items like irons and hair dryers. They do not provide enough wattage and will most likely overheat and catch fire. The price of a good converter will be a lot more than bugging an iron in Japan.

  4. Oh man, I was about to bring my steam iron to Japan too and you said they don’t work? Mine is 110-120V. Should I just leave it home?

  5. Sounds like an excuse to go to Yodabashi! But seriously, your hotel probably can help you if you are staying in a major chain.
