Permanent Residency Related Question

Hi people of reddit r/japanlife
I currently live and work in japan as a permanent employee (8 years as of September 2023).
Pensions, taxes and other obligations are never defaulted on payments. Never had a problem with the law.
Currently i’m considering applying for PR when extending residency in the 10th year (2025).
But as of April 2023, the company i currently work with appointed me to be transferred to my country of origin for at least 3 years (representative at the representative office).

I want to know, if I accept the offer and leave Japan before I get PR, should I still pay for the pensions and other obligations so that I can still take care of permanent residency when I return to Japan later on?
I’m actually still confused, what advantages can I get from PR other than the freedom from “binds” with an employer to live in Japan? (I also still not decided if in the future i will take loan and buy a house here). are there any losses if i decide to take the offer and go back to my country? since im still working with the same japanese company? also should i still pay japan tax obligations since im going to be working in my home country (if i decided to pursue the PR as planned) or I could somehow request for “pending payment”?
I am also considering to take the pension that I paid for (ichijidattaikin) just because i dont know when i am coming back, so then when the company return me to Japan, i just repeat all the procedures again (pay the pension etc from year one).

  1. mmm I think leaving Japan for more then 6 months getting you to the start point of visa status

  2. The 10 years need to be consecutive. If you leave for 3 years, you will start over at 0 when you return. I would discuss this with your company and try to delay your transfer until after PR. I know this isn’t possible for everyone, but I’d change jobs if my employer was unwilling to accommodate the request for delay.
