International Wire to Japan Post

I made a transfer from my J.P. Morgan account to Japan Post, but apparently I needed to here 6 months before I’m allowed to do that. The order details updated with a funds accessible date which was July 5th, but it didn’t come. So I’m hoping it was EST. I’m kind of panicking because I need to make a transfer for 不動産 due tomorrow. Has anyone had experience with this? What happens if they reject the wire, do they just send it back? Sorry I know there are posts somewhat related to this, but I need to figure out what to do quickly. Wire was made around 7am June 30th so it’s the typical 5 days for JP Morgan.

  1. I could wire money to my Yucho Ginko account as soon as I opened it. There was some mistake along the way and the sender bank took 10 000 yen everytime the transaction failed and the money were returned. It takes a few days with every attempt.

  2. Did you specify intermediary bank that’s required for JP post transfers? Details here: https://www.jp-bank.japanpost.jp/en/djp/en_djp_index.html

If you didn’t, your transfer isn’t going to make it. It will eventually get cancelled and returned to your JPM account minus some handling fee.

Also, you’ve been here for > 6 months at the point of transfer right? Because as you said, you won’t be able to accept it before that.

  3. I’ve had a lot of success wiring money from my American credit union account to JP post account using Xoom from Paypal. No fees if it’s a larger amount (I got my US refunds that way) and I literally just put in both bank accounts information without needing an intermediary bank or anything. It wires to me in about a week.
