How do I dispose of dead batteries?

I’ve been storing them for a few years in my pantry and they are adding up. Do I take them somewhere? Do they go out on nonburnable day?

  1. A lot of home centers near me have disposal bins in front area inside for batteries and ink carts.

  2. If your city doesn’t have batteries scheduled for non-combustible pickup, most bigger supermarkets have a bin for them. Your BicYamadaYodobashi will have it, too. Often but not exclusively a bin in the shape of an oversized battery. If your ward office has a recycling container for tech they probably have one for batteries as well.

  3. Did anyone see you?
If not, bury them and take that secret with you to the grave.

  4. If you ask where the battery disposal box is a chain electrical goods shops they’ll take them off your hands, even if they don’t have such a bin.

  5. You have been here “for years” and you still can’t properly sort your garbage? Dam, you must have a team of purple hared grannies waiting for you when you drop off your trash.

  6. If you live around the Yokohama area, they have a website called Mictionary where you can search garbage type and the details on how to dispose them will be displayed.

Otherwise, search for your city/ward name and ゴミ分別

  7. In my ward, they can only be thrown out twice a month. You should be able to find out online the day to throw them out wherever you live. Every area does things differently.

  8. Our ward makes a distinction between alkaline and rechargeable, which doesn’t surprise me. But it also makes a distinction between regular alkaline cells and button-cell batteries, the latter of which go out with non-burnables.
