Rock/metal bar around Tokyo?

Looking to take a buddy out for her birthday. She is very into rock and metal, so thought a cool themed bar may be good. Saw a few on google (himawari, crawdaddy, etc) but haven’t been to any before.

Any good experiences or favorites?
Thanks for the advice!

  1. I went to a place called Bauhaus in Roppongi for my friend’s birthday. They have an in-house band that takes requests. More classic rock stuff than metal. You have to make reservations in advance though.

  2. This is my jam haha I am a regular at every metal bar in tokyo 😂.

    Godz (full of tourists).
They sometimes have live shows in the left hand side bar. I’ve even played there a few times.

    Bar PSY (great bar)
From dusk til Dawn (great bar, owner is so lovely)
    Guinea Pig (great spot)
Rockaholic (really young early 20s crowd, meh)
    Thirteen
Deathmatch in Hell (rammed with tourists now)
Mother is OK. Used to be good but they have some rude af bartenders now. Music is also extremely loud with a bad quality sound system. Bring earplugs if you have sensitive hearing.
Bar Land (Ikebukuro, quieter but almost no tourists, mainly locals)

Shinjuku is the place to go. Shibuya sucks for rock and metal unless it’s for a live show.

  3. If you wanna just listen to metal/rock and drink come over to my place in Roppongi. Ive got Spotify on great speakers set up and family mart 1 minute away for 160 yen Strong Zeros!

  4. There’s a small one in Golden Gai, name is Deathmatch in Hell. Crowded, seems popular compared to the other bars in that area.

  5. Also, Koenji is live house central, although its more punk rock/hardcore than metal
