International power strip with surge protection that plugs into Japanese outlets?

I’m moving to Japan in September and I’ve accumulated different electronics with different plugs which I need to bring with me… I can’t even answer the voltage requirements, but a tech savvy friend assured me it was OK to use a surge protected power strip for all my items. I’m trying to find an equivalent power strip for when I get to Japan, however I think my electronic knowledge is so low that I can’t effectively search for what I want, or maybe it simply does not exist?

I am thinking of a power strip with surge protection which has versatile outlets that can accommodate a variety of pins, e.g. AUS, US, EU etc., but I assumed for it to be safe it’s cable should be the flat 2 pins used in JP (in my home country it plugs into the wall without another adapter). Is that available anywhere? I searched Amazon JP but nothing seems to come up that fits this description.

Failing the above, is it safe to carry over my own power strip and simply use a cheapish adapter to plug it into the wall? Or each of my electronics need their own adapters? Or do you have an alternate approach for your electronics with nonJP plugs? Really do not want to electrocute myself, destroy my electronics or set anything on fire…

Thank you very much in advance!

That’s not going to happen so no need to worry about that. Electrical outlets in Japan run at 100 V, making it the lowest and safest voltage for electricity mains in the world.

Using a power strip should be fine. But if you are plugging in anything that requires more than 100 V that doesn’t use a power converter, it’s just going to be under-powered and may not perform at optimal performance or just won’t work at all. Easiest way to know is to look up what voltage your country uses for electrical outlets.

  3. Figure out your devices voltage needs first. They’re written right on the devices somewhere, saying 120V or whatever it is. If it includes 100V, then it’s fine to use here with just a plug adapter. If not, it’s not going to work here.

Japan’s has one of the lowest voltages, so things are most likely just going to not turn on rather than explode. Still, figure that out before you get here, so you don’t bring stuff that you can’t use.
