It’s Monday! Did you do anything over the weekend? Go somewhere? Meet someone? Try something new?

Post about your activities from the weekend here! Pictures are also welcome.

  1. I found a nice Nescafé Gold cold brew so I started making my own iced lattes at home now, and I want to buy some nice caramel sauces to drizzle inside to make it extra fancy. Planning on carrying these with me to work in one of those keep cold sealable coffee tumblers. And then spent the rest of the weekend playing new Zelda, which is fantastic.

  2. Capped off a very busy work week (seven days straight, long hours, not around to help with house stuff as much as I’d have liked) by borderline telling my wife to take at least a half day for herself.

Took the kids to a Kids Movie event (son met a friend from school they had a great time together), borrowed some new library books (I love how both my kids love horror story books, despite being apart in age), had lunch and lots of fun.

I may have also inadvertently introduced my son to his first perfectly legal contest loophole, so TBC.

  3. Took a drive down to Nokogiriyama and stayed there one night right next to the ocean. Got a little shopping done at Mitsui Outlet Park on the way, convinced the wife to give Panda Express a shot (their chowmein and fried rice were definitely a lot lighter in taste than I remember back home), and enjoyed a quaint local music festival right next to our hotel. Visited Mother Farm on the second day and our daughter had a blast petting the various animals. All in all a good weekend, if not too short.

Still getting a little used to driving longer distances here. In the time it takes me to cover 300km back in Canada I can cover about 70km here.

  4. Put 400 km on the used Suzuki volty 2002 I got!
Mountains, Twisties, toll road, the works.
Had an expat veteran with a full on road king take me out to work on staggered riding, too.

Surprisingly, not only have I not gotten any pushback from the schools I work at, but instead some of the older staff want to know when we can ride together.

  5. Design Festa!! It was amazing. So many creative people and so much great stuff to look at and buy.

  6. Great little weekend. My wife has been absolutely in love with our new house and life.

Went for a walk around Shibuya yesterday, then joined a few friends we haven’t talked to in a while for karaoke and impressed everyone (maybe) with a full lungs rendition of the first JoJo opening.

Oh, and I caved and bought the new Zelda. It genuinely feels like the same game as BotW, but that’s not really a bad thing, lol.

  7. Got a nice gift from work on Friday afternoon: The kids went clam digging for a field trip and brought back an absolutely ridiculous amount of fresh clams (we’re talking 3-4 massive garbage bags worth) so I was sent home with a kilogram and a half of them. I’ve never cooked them before (until recently I barely cook at all!) but I ended up going for the Clam Pasta recipe from Just One Cookbook and it came out marvelously. Still have a ton of clams left that I’ve stuck in the freezer for now, but it was pretty neat going through the process of de-gritting them, and actually doing some proper cooking.

Sunday was quite rainy, so I ended up installing a ridiculous amount of mods (50+) on a fresh Stardew Valley save and getting back into that. Always crazy to me how that game can be so cozy yet so frantic sometimes.

  8. I made the 2+ hour drive into the city over the weekend and 15min before Bic closed I finally bit the bullet and bought a switch(lite)! Half my friends were telling me to get a switch and the other half were saying just put the money toward a gaming laptop. Decided to go for a switch lite and Breath of the Wild. I remember watching my RA play it in my freshman year of college when it first came out and always wanted to try, so I’m excited to finally get the chance. On a side note, dang console games have gotten expensive since my DS playing days, which to be fair was like 15 years ago. My friend likes to buy the physical games and said I can use hers while she’s busy with the new Zelda game, so that’s a great setup.

On a side note I managed to run into a stone talus and it keeps wrecking me. Been ages since I’ve had to actually fight stuff alone in a game. Anyone got any tips? Lol

  9. Learning Nada Sousou on my sanshin. The arrangement I got is pretty simple, with just a few simple pull-offs and one phrase with a hammer-on, and it still sounds very much like the real thing. This instrument is fun! Now I just learn how to sing as well…

  10. Went to a Red Baron to look at prices on used bikes. Went to a Dream Honda after that.

Watched a bunch of videos on bikes, and did more research. I’m going to go sit on one first (it’s more of a cruiser in style unlike the Honda CB400 we’re training on in class), but I think I’ll probably buy a 2023 Kawasaki Eliminator (400cc) as my first bike.

Bought a drive recorder on sale and then proceeded to spend way too much money on camping gear. One of my goals this year was to get in more camping. Once I get a bit more comfortable on the bike, I think I will enjoy solo bike camping. My wife works weekends so we generally couldn’t go together anyway.

  11. tried a new “hawaiian” style restaurant in saitama. food was pretty good and reasonably priced, but due to newness it was fairly crowded and it doesn’t seem the staff have found their rhythm yet because getting in/out took a very long time…

  12. In laws came this week-end in Kanto region we spent great time together. First time they visit our appartement. Back to when we lived in France they planned to come visit us but COVID cancelled everything. I was very happy for my partner that they could come to Kanto. Can’t wait to move out to countryside, close to them.

We went to Asakusa on saturday, it was super crowded because of some matsuri that has not been held for 4 years. I didn’t wear mask and I’m super surprised none of us caught covid.

I’m noob but fond of go game, father in law found randomly a go club close to where I live (5min walk). It’s been months I’ve been looking for one without any success.

Next saturday plan are booked ! Will spend the afternoon playing go. It’s been so long I didn’t play against a real opponent I’m so excited.

  13. Vaped too much my throat hurts like a bitch. Or I’m just having a flu again

  14. Got a cheap secondhand waffle maker, tried a delicious new recipe, lazed in the sun with my dog, absolutely wrecked my husband’s shit at cribbage, and got some good writing done for the first time in ages. Had one drink too many and slept badly but overall I’m feeling more like a human being than I have been and am actually interested in my hobbies again. Spring, man.

  15. Watched a bunch of hula dancers at Nakano Central Park yesterday. There was a Hawaiian festival, so it was nice to just hang out with a drink and reflect on how much I like living in Nakano

  16. Went to AWA, and waited over 70 minutes to get inside and I had to breeze thru it because everyone was taking so many photos… It was impossible to stop and calmly look at the exhibition. Was so disappointed.

Other than that, went to the gym and relaxed at home playing some Zelda.

  17. My son really loves his friend from hoikuen, so we went to his friend’s house to play on Saturday. They live next door to the apartment I lived in when I first moved to Japan, so it was really nostalgic for me.

Somehow, I got a nasty sunburn on my arms. wtf? I’m supposed to be immune to sunburn damnit.

Yesterday, we spent the day in Namba, had a great lunch, good coffee, and a great dinner. Good weekend overall.

  18. Went took BOOK OFF and decided to challenge myself and look for a manga series I was interested in. Either it was not there or I failed. If only the entire store was just sorted alphabetically.

  19. Any new mumy or dady or going to be?

Need to ask couple of question instead of opening a new thread in this forum.

We are expecting a baby coming September. All process done like booking a hospital, informing city hall and applying for child benefit from govt(insurance). My wife is around 5-6 months pregnancy , so we are planning to buy baby items like stroller , crib , cots and all before my wife enters into 7month pregnancy period where it could nbe difficult to go for shopping.

1)Regarding question, We are looking for a specific stroller where we can be folded and placed into flight compartment too. So that it will be easier for us to carry the stroller to home country as we will be visiting home very soon . I looked some online places, but some of them dont include the kind of baby seat or baby carrier (where I can just disassemble from the stroller and just carry like basket carrying a baby. ( we dont have car, so we are not looking for car seat type )

2)Is it ok to buy baby`s cloth now(we already know the gender), or should we wait more. My wife has been looking online mostly like shien , aliexpress and all.

3)When did you receive the govt coupon 100,000JPY , is it after birth or before birth? Because we can use this coupon to buy stroller and cot if we receive before the delivery.

    4) What should I do or where should I call? if my wife`s water breaks at middle of night?(I know too soon to be questioned, but I am stressed.

5)Whats the most important thing you regret buying or regret not buying before and after delivery?

6)For most of the husband, I know child care leave might be difficult, but I am ok with that as I am also planning to apply my parent in visit visa for about 1 – 2 months, also I am working form home so I will be at home 24/7 . But what are the chances for getting approved for child care leave? is there any advantage in my situation?

  20. The fireflies have popped at Dazaifu Seicho Ato. We hung out chilling and drinking in a gazebo half the day and then went wandering around the dark creeks at night. I think they had just hatched recently, so they should really get going this coming weekend.

  21. Had fun at a event for one of my hobbies.

However, a couple of my friends got into *drama* and are now not speaking to each other. I have to rework a couple future nomikais so that the people that aren’t talking to each other aren’t at the same nomikai, but otherwise as long as I’m careful I can keep both sides of the fight happy. I don’t think they’ll be speaking to each other again from what I know of the drama.

  22. Did some shopping, participated in some sports after a long time and today my leg hurts like a bitch.

As for the parallel storyline, really frustrated with the people over here. There is absolutely no chance to build relationships (romantic or not). People reply to messages once a day (or more) even though you’re having a really interesting conversation (And this is not just one person). Sometimes I even forget the context lol, hard to keep track of all these delayed conversations. If you don’t even talk to someone properly how are you gonna progress (or even find out if they’re compatible or not).

  23. Cooked a pork belly in the weber. First try so the crackling wasn’t perfect but it was pretty good. Belly was oily so couldn’t eat a lot of it. I was happy with it though. Tasty and good fun.

  24. The SO won the tickets lottery for a pair of Twice tickets for the weekend’s show, so we went to that. I’m no superfan but I know a good chunk of the songs since my SO is either playing or singing to herself.

They really packed that stadium full though, must have been about 65k or so people. I tell ya what with the amount of merchandizing the company behind them does, someone must be absolutely rolling in dosh.

  25. Went out shopping. Well mostly window shopping and shooting the shit with friends. Only spent four hours outside yet felt absolutely *exhausted*. Guess I still haven’t fully gotten over Corona.
