I’ve been working freelance for the past few years, and now might have an opportunity to go full-time (remote) with a Tokyo-based company.
I’ve seen some conflicting reports on salary expectations in Japan, ranging from reasonable to criminal. Hopefully you guys can help me out with a bit of clarification before I go in for the meeting!

From what I have seen, the salaries and nature of the work can vary quite a bit. You could be paid a pittance and expected to basically rescue crappy Japanese-to-English translations just enough to be semi-intelligible, or you could be paid reasonably well and do actual copywriting work. It really depends on the company, but be sure to ask lots of questions and listen to your gut.
I get paid about 300,000 a month and only don’t complain because I work from home. It isn’t good.
When I worked at RICHO as a haken it was about 370,000. You’ll make more if it is technical writing.
