  1. They want a Frank opinion? It’s ducking horrible that nuclear weapons have been used.

But there are evil people in the world, and now that the genie is out of the bottle, it’s something that is going the ever present on the horizon. When we invented napalm, and vx gas, and sarin, and weaponized anthrax, and so on and so on we have consistently demonstrated that we will always seek new ways of ultimate destruction. These methods are still being used today by those same evil people we like to pretend can be shouted back into the darkness, but there is a cold truth that they cannot.

We can believe that no one will make nuclear weapons or use them in the future, but such thoughts are a gullibility test. It’s better that we admit that such weapons are atrocious and victimize many more than it should, but should push come to shove, we can return the same violence.

  2. This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://english.kyodonews.net/news/2023/05/a9a4d43cda79-a-bomb-survivor-thurlow-calls-g-7-summit-huge-failure.html) reduced by 70%. (I’m a bot)

    > Many atomic bomb survivors, including campaigner Setsuko Thurlow, voiced anger and disappointment at the Group of Seven nations' summit on Sunday after the leaders released a statement that supported the possession of nuclear weapons for deterrence and failed to mention the treaty banning nuclear arms.

    > The Japan Confederation of A- and H-Bomb Sufferers Organizations said the G-7 summit dashed people's hopes and expectations for the abolition of nuclear weapons and instead became a conference that fans war by giving support to nuclear deterrence and security under a nuclear umbrella.

    > "As a survivor of an atomic bombing, I am outraged," said the 77-year-old Hamasumi, referring to the fact that the statement did not mention the survivors or the U.N. treaty banning nuclear weapons but backed nuclear deterrence.
