Working in an aquarium/with animals?

Hi all!

I’m currently studying a pre-uni Conservation Managment diploma with plans to go straight into my second year of a zoology/marine bio/wildlife bio bachelor’s or similar (still comparing courses and considering moving interstate and etc). I have been studying Japanese since I was 14- so coming up on 9 years now- and consider myself pretty much fluent, but am interested in adding an Advanced Japanese minor to my degree as well. I’m in Australia, also.

I currently work at a pet store while studying for flexibility, but have had past work (paid and volunteer) as a zookeeper, doing ranger positions in national parks, and shelter work (mostly cattery based).

My main questions are:
How realistic is it to be hired as an aquarist or in a similar role as a foreigner (am I kidding myself, basically)?
For those with experience in the animal/natural sciences/ecology field, how do you find it compared to your home country? Do you enjoy it? Do you find it fulfilling?
If not an animal related job, what would you suggest as a related field that would be in-demand in Japan? I have no programming or IT skills and am not eager to go into that kind of job- I also do freelance illustration but know that creative job opportunities in Japan are probably few. So I get my options are a bit more limited.

My goal is basically to go there and work for a while and see where it takes me, so am wanting to feel out my options well in advance and curb my expectations haha.

Thanks for any help!💗
