Student Visa Financial Sponsor Questions

I’m thinking of persuing an undergraduate degree at a university in Japan. Somehow student visa for Japan is kinda strict in my country and a lot of the students got denied even though they presented all the documents needed. I got some questions to ask about Financial Sponsor.

1. Does your sponsor specifically need to be your family member?

When I googled about it, most recommend your family member being your sponsor is the best option. However, even though my family is kinda able to afford to be my sponsor, the thing about tax and bank statement is a problem for us. My parents are old fashioned and so they don’t use bank services and also we run a shop and I don’t think we have a license for it. On the other hand, my aunt who is my father’s sister check all the need.

2. Does having a 100% tution reduction scholarship increase your chances of your visa being approved?

3. Has anyone try self sponsor and get approved? Can you share me your journey?

Currently, I don’t have any job and yep I will have to ask money from my parents. However, with the problems above, can I just get the money in my bank account and say I’m gonna self sponsor myself.

4. How long does it take for the one’s (seniors’) visa to get approved?

  2. >Does your sponsor specifically need to be your family member?

They don’t *have* to be, but a non-related sponsor will probably be subject to more scrutiny.

    >On the other hand, my aunt who is my father’s sister check all the need.

An Aunt is a family member, so that’s fine.

    >Does having a 100% tution reduction scholarship increase your chances of your visa being approved?

Maybe? But you’ll still be required to show proof of financial support, because a tuition reduction doesn’t change your living expenses.

    >can I just get the money in my bank account and say I’m gonna self sponsor myself.

Yes, but you’ll need to be careful how you do it. Immigration looks out for sudden large transfers right before you apply for the visa, because those look like loans that may/may not be returned immediately after the visa is approved. They *really* don’t like that, because the financial support requirements are there for a reason.

If you’re going to put the money in your account you need to move it several months before you apply and then just leave it there.
