What are your favorite Kissatens in Japan?

I’ve been living in Japan for close to 10 years and have really gotten into the kissaten culture in the past year, and I’m on the hunt for more!! I’ve mostly just visited them in Tokyo and Kyoto, but I’d love to hear your recommendations from anywhere. I especially enjoy Kissaten that have the retro ghibli vibe going on. My favorites so far have been

● Meikyoku Kissa Lion in Shibuya (A++++, seriously. My number one for vibes)
● Chatei Hatou also in Shibuya
● Kissaten Seven in Sangenjaya
● Kojou in Ueno
● R Za Dokushokan in Koenji
● Cafe Sarusa in Kyoto
● Soiree in Kyoto

Thanks in advance!

  1. You’ve named a lot of the big hitters – maybe [L’ambre](https://maps.app.goo.gl/Tfj4ianMBLGivori6?g_st=ic) , [Cafe de Pari](https://maps.app.goo.gl/TUi4VXDALUJyqzE78?g_st=ic) , [Oka](https://maps.app.goo.gl/juYz3mPBxijfGNCM6?g_st=ic) and [Kojo](https://maps.app.goo.gl/fYAcjK64Q6FgV2669?g_st=ic) should be on that list too.

But really, there are literally so many (despite a few sad closures during the pandemic) that it only takes searching 喫茶店, 純喫茶 or 名曲喫茶 + [location] in google maps then filtering by popularity to see what’s good.

  2. Random question since you seem to know vsrious cafes.

Is there any cafe where you can sit near the barista just to have a random talk? Like talking to bartender in a bar?

There’s something like that in my home country, but I couldn’t find any here / more like idk how to find such place. Any ideas?

*Bar works but sometimes I prefer to have a chat over coffee in the afternoon.
