Issue with unable to pay rent on time

I am a university student in Japan. Due to some personal issues, I’m unable to be in Japan for over three months. Over the time money for rents and tuition fees has been taken out of my bank account, which currently leaves me with roughly 41k yen. However, my rent for May is due on the 27th, around 60k yen.

I won’t be heading back until the 4th of June, and that is when I’ll be able to add more money into my account via ATM. I have tried asking my friends to transfer money into my account by it just doesn’t go through.

I rented this room through a local Japan realtor (betsudaikosan). Will they take away my room or is it ok to let them wait and I’ll be able to pay the rent when I return to Japan?

  1. I’d contact the landlord if you don’t have any other way to transfer money into your bank account.

Any specified reason why? I don’t see why it wouldn’t work (domestic transfer).

  3. Did you have to sign up with a guarantor when you moved in? If so, they will anyway cover the rent payment itself, and then come after you for the amount. If you’re able to pay within a couple of weeks, it shouldn’t be an issue at all.

If there’s no guarantor, and you’re paying directly to the landlord, then contacting your realtor (as you’ve already done) is your only real option. Being late 1 or 2 weeks one time really shouldn’t be a big problem.
