I just submitted my app the other day. I know it’s a waiting game now, and that there’s a very high chance that I will not be placed in any of my preferences if selected, but I’m still curious haha.
Due to sister city relationships I first chose Hyogo and Aomori, and then chose Ishikawa as my third, because my friend lives in Kanazawa.
Any Hyogo, Aomori, or Ishikawa ALTs want to share how they liked their placement? (I’m kind of a smaller city/rural type of person, and love snowy winters).

I know two JETs in Aomori right now. They love it but they also have to drive. So be prepared for that. Come with about 3500 usd in case you need to buy a car.
My top choices were all Tohoku region and upwards and I got placed in Aomori. I also wanted urban but got a rural placement.
I think it’s fantastic. I’m 30min away from the city I wanted, have cheap cost to living, and live in a beautiful town. I did have to buy a car but my pred. sold me his for around 1.5k usd so I’m not stuck with monthly payments. Overall, I have zero complaints!
My choices were Kanto, Hyogo and Kansai. I’m in Tokyo now. Definitely didn’t expect that. It was tough at first but I am slowly adjusting. It’s a big city so I live on the west side of it.
Actually, sister city placements aren’t too unlikely from my own experience. My placement is sistered with Denver, Colorado and the vast majority of the Americans here are from Colorado. Of course, I don’t really have any statistics or anything but it might give you some encouragement.
