When I received My Number, the city hall told me not to tell anyone the number. But, I’m moving to a new apartment and the real estate agency asked me for it. Is this normal?
For Japanese nationals it is a valid form of photo ID comparable to a passport, since they have no gaijin cards and not everyone has a driver’s license. It is possible they extended the same practice to you. I would only provide it if they had a contract ready for you to stamp. When I signed up for a credit card I had to provide a copy of the front.
You should only provide a picture of the front, never the back (where the number is).
They don’t need it. Your resident card should be used.
Personally, I would tell them that I don’t have a My Number card
