Here’s the finals between the King of Strong Style and the Ace! I’ve said this before but I can’t stress this enough. This is my favorite G1 finals and one of the best NJPW matches ever. This was peak Nakamura and Tanahashi was still in his prime.

Literally watched this for the first time a few weeks ago. Such a great match!
Awesome…everything! Also that mat sounds and looks like concrete, not much bounce ouch
This is what a g1 climax final should look like in its purest form. Not to say its the best or my favourite. But the two top babayfaces squaring off in a contest of wills, technique and charisma. Both men exhausted and sweating after duking it out in the middle of summer.
What a trip down memory lane… How time has catched up to both Nakamura and Tanahashi.
Match that pretty much marked an end of an era for NJPW, and wrapped up the Tana-Nak rivalry, with callbacks to their previous matches and moments (Tana’s attacks on Nak’s leg, and Nak being particularly vicious with his knee strikes in return).
As good as this match is, I may actually prefer a match they had for the IWGP in 2011.
If only Nakamura didn’t fall in love with American surfing.
This is in my Top 5 favorite NJPW matches.
one of my favorite matches of all time
miss this Nakamura
i remember on facebook there is debate about whether Nakamura is worthy to be WWE Champion or not. then there is this wrestling fan who confidently claim that Nakamura is not a champion material, not on same level as Tanahashi and never win IWGP Heavyweight Champion LOL.
sure he probably has great time at WWE now but at same time for those who clueless about wrestling outside of mainstream space, they gonna end up with wrong idea about some of wrestler on the roster. Nakamura is good example. look how they massacred my boy.
Was not watching wrestling again till when Cody went to his first WK. It was a hell of an actual re-introduction to me. It’d been about 16 years since I actively saw wrestling by that point.
The Tanahashi I was getting was still great at that point but he had put in some insanely amazing work and time before for sure.
Prime Tanahashi was so good.
To me, the second best match in their rivalry (behind the one in the G1 Climax Special from 2011) and the second best G1 final of the last decade (behind the one from 2018). Second best is still pretty great though, because what a match!
Can we have this shinsuke back?
