I’m a consultant working remotely and looking at returning to Japan under a spouse of a Japanese national visa. I am the director of a limited company registered in the UK, and receive my personal income as a mixture of dividends and a small salary. I don’t do business with any Japanese clients, if that’s relevant.
I haven’t had any trouble with this in other countries, but I’m struggling to find information on how this works tax-wise in Japan. Are there any resources on the law surrounding running a foreign company from Japan?

You’re in one of the few visa situations where remote work is legal, so your only real concerns will be taxes.
The short version is that your salary will be subject to income taxes in Japan. Your dividends *might* be, depending on whether you remit them to Japan.
For the long version I would head over to /r/japanfinance. They’ll be able to give you all the details you’re looking for.
Do you have residency??? Yes I know you have visa but if you are registered in City hall then you are subject to taxes.
