Working Holiday Visa as Canadian at 30

Hello!

I visited Japan recently for the first time and absolutely loved it! So I was looking into getting a WHV and I have a month left to be eligible. Currently 30 years old and turning 31 in a month, so I have a month to apply since I need to be max 30 at the time of application. Just a couple of questions I have for now:

\- Would there be less chance of getting the visa the older you are?

\- Looks like the maximum number of visas issued per year for Canadians is 6,500. Does this run out fast throughout the year?

\- Did you hear back within 1-2 week(s) after applying for WHV?

Thanks 🙂

There are a total of around 12,000 Canadians living in Japan at the moment. I would be extremely surprised if half of us were here using the working holiday program.

    >- Would there be less chance of getting the visa the older you are?

Naw, you’ll be fine. Just hurry up.

    >- Did you hear back within 1-2 week(s) after applying for WHV?

Sorry, it was quite a long time ago and I can’t recall the specific timeline. It was pretty quick though from application to approval. I applied at the consulate in Toronto.

I saw the figures once because of a job I was doing. I don’t think I’m free to disclose them, and it was a long time ago so I don’t know if they’re still valid anyway, but the number at the time was nowhere remotely close to the maximum limit. I suspect you’ll be fine, so go to the consulate and get your application in.

  4. Not Canadian but just wanted to say that I looked into it very recently in general and until the day before you turn 31 you’re eligible as long as you submit the application before that date. So as soon as the application is in it’s no problem even it you turn 31 before you get the visa itself.

Thanks all! Sorry for tagging and replying like this. Haven’t really used Reddit and didn’t know how to reply to all lol.

I just made an appointment to submit my application 10 days before my birthday! Please wish me luck :). If my application gets rejected, would I still be able to reapply after my birthday (at 31) since my first attempt was when I was 30?
