Do razor blades go in plastic or metals?

Its a stupid question I KNOW but I literally have scoured the internet for the answer. And I have too much social anxiety to ask anyone around me.

I use shaving razors pretty regularly (I’m female). Its the kind of razor that has a whole lot of plastic around it surrounding the blades. Should I put it with the metal recycling due to the blades? I have tried to separate the two but … well that ended as well as you’d think it would. Its a really stupid first world issue but its bothering me.

  1. Depends on your city, check your city website. It’ll almost for sure tell you. Otherwise, check the packaging that it came in, there’ll be little symbols for plastic or burnable, etc. Lastly, I’m sure if you put it in burnables, it wouldn’t be the end of the world.

  2. afaik they go with the cans. i throw them with my beer cans and so far i dont get any returns

  3. You could try the double-edge razors. Then you only have metal waste. You can put them in a small metal tin and you’ll probably never actually have to throw it out because they take up so little space. Cheap as well.

One of my female friends uses them and she swears by them now, they are a bit intimidating the first time using them though.

  4. Without knowing your area, I can only share how it’s done in my city. Disposable safety razors go out on not burnable (燃えないごみ) days. (they’re 2x/month). We don’t have to label them or anything as they’re standard safety razors. (loose blade kind would need wrapped and marked as キケン)

However, the town over is very particular about various things. Even safety razors need to be wrapped in paper, labelled, and you must use the correct color trashbag.

It’s good to ask before getting labeled as that foreigner who can’t do trash right.

  5. I’m assuming you’re talking about the disposable blade cartridge that comes off the handle. It’s plastic if anything, but it also fits in the burnables so either is fine.

  6. Look at your city’s website or printout. Both places I’ve lived has them in non-burnables, but you need to check yours.

  7. Usually the razor head goes in non burnable garbage (燃えないゴミ)in the places I’ve lived.
