Kinda weird to jump to the ‘mass shooting’ term like that. None of the news so far puts it that level. Maybe it will get there (hope not), but saying it now is just being alarmist.
Extremely sad. Heart goes out to all the victims and those affected.
Good lord
American in Japan on my honeymoon. WTF!? I came here to get away from this kind of shit.
This is very shocking and tragic. I wonder how the criminal was able to take down and kill two police officers…
The sad thing is, as an American, my first thought was “only 3 people?”, not “RIP”. Shoes heo much the US has screwed up my brain, even though I chose to leave bc of similar issues.
Domestic crime or foreigners involved?
But mass shootings are illegal. Who would’ve thought. 🤔
Not to be pedantic, but technically this not qualify as a mass shooting by US standards, because (based on news I read so far) only 3 people were shot, while a mass shooting requires 4 victims.
So yeah, go USA with your messed up statistics!
edit: i read now there is one more victim so this is a mass shooting by all definitions.
This hardly constitutes a mass shooting. Well I guess by American standards it’s not a mass shooting, I guess anymore than 1 person shot in japan is considered a mass shooting
I think a mass shooting is defined as 4 people shot and killed not including the shooter. This would be a triple homicide.
When I first came to Japan, I felt this was a much freer country, despite the fact that, as an American, I resented a few lost freedoms, but Japan had a better mix.
But I have watched so very many freedoms dry up in this country over the last few decades. The words “can’t” and “don”t” seem to dominate everything. We lose freedoms but we gain none. Plus simple economic distress is spreading.
I do not know the motive here, but I think odds are there is a relation. Also, I think there was probably also inspiration from the recent attacks on PMs, and I am sorry to say, this incident too will probably be someone’s inspiration. I think its going to be a hot summer unfortunately.
Can you edit your title?
Only in America!! Guess gun control doesn’t work after all!
A helicopter has been making passes over Nozawa Onsen (~30 km from Nakano) all afternoon and night. I noticed and thought something must be going on before learning of this news, because there’s almost no air traffic here except for medevac or SAR. I have to wonder if they’re on the hunt for this guy.
Japanese shooters love shotguns for some reason
