Intern in Japan with visa question.

So I’ve been here for 2 and a half years as an Intern with a 3year contract through an agency back in my country. My contract ends this December and i already have plans to find another job. I’ve made a few japanese friends here and through one of them with good connections i managed to find a Junior Software engineer job that he says are doing ‘diversity hire’ right now (lucky me). I’m currently studying for some AWS certification and a Java Silver certification which i am certain I’ll get in the next couple months with which I’ll have a better chance to land a job. I only have N4 but i can speak fairly well (don’t take JLPT tests cause i suck at kanji) even with japanese people, granted i still suck with complicated words used in business environment but I’m sure i can learn quick the same way i did in my current internship. Sorry for the long post.
SO, my question is will me being an intern whose contract/visa is about to end hinder me in finding another job here? Or would that pose no problem and i would be able to continue living here even after my contract ends? I dont know any laws about this or have any knowledge related to this so any help from people well versed in these would really be appreciated!!!

  1. It really just depends. Do you qualify for a working visa with the appropriate work experience or education in a designated category?

If you qualify for a working visa then honestly it’s up to your individual skills/resume as to if you’ll get a job or not. Being an intern shouldn’t really matter if you have the ability, skills and experience to sell yourself as a potential hire. So long as you have the baseline qualifications to switch to a different visa type, it’s possible.

It really just comes down to your own hire-ability. However if you don’t meet the baseline qualifications then it’ll be more difficult yes.

  2. If by “intern” you mean your visa is “実習生” then you might need to come back to your country first regardless. The people in this sub rarely have this visa so their answer won’t be accurate (including my answer lol, I only know about it by reading others cases from facebook). Just call immigration and ask them.
