On the Japanese side of things can they get tourist visas as easily as before covid?
This would be for them to come over as a professional athlete for a competition. I know you can’t work on a tourist visa, but do cash prizes for sports count as “work”?
Let’s say you won $20,000 USD (prize is in USD I think) how does that effect the visa? Of course you don’t even know if you’ll get any prize money or not when you’re applying for the visa…

There’s a special visa called 興行ビザ for people competing in competitions. You are not allowed to compete for possible prizes on a tourist visa.
