On May 14, a man who was fishing at Shumarinai Lake in Horokanai, Hokkaido suddenly went missing. A helmsman said: “I took him by boat to the fishing location since early morning, and he had already gone missing when I came back to pick him up a few hours later. The hunters assigned to search for the man came across a bear with a fishing boot in its mouth.”
The next day, human flesh and bone fragments were found in the stomach of the brown bear that was s.hot near the scene. Without a doubt, the man was attacked by the brown bear. This was the first fatal accident caused by a bear in Hokkaido since November 2021 in the Yubari region.
The brown bear is the largest specie of bear among the wild animals living in Japan. The Asian Black bears living in Honshu and Shikoku weigh from 40 to 100 kilograms and are 1 to 1.3 meters tall. Brown bears, which only live in Hokkaido, weigh from 100 to 200 kilograms and can even grow to roughly 2 meters tall. The rate of fatalities is higher with brown bears than Asian Black bears.
The largest brown bear ever caught was 500 kilograms heavy and 2.43 meters long and was named “Hokkai Taro.” It is currently on display at the local museum in Tomamae town.

Eaten alive is likely one of the worst ways to go. I can’t imagine the fear and pain he felt.
They’d already found his head last week.
Damn. I guess they still need investigate since there’s an off chance that he was murdered and then fed to the bear
Thanks for the info, Dwight!
Shouldn’t that be “HUMAN REMAINS” rather than “HUMAN BODY”.
Go into the woods or the water, and you are part of the food chain.
Respect the kamuy
