Private Onsen/Ryokan with view of Fuji

Hi everyone, my boyfriend and I were meant to be visiting Japan this April, however we’ve had to reschedule to next year which has given us the chance to replan our trip. We were previously going to visit Yumenoi onsen and loved how traditional it was after seeing it in a Youtube video, however, we would really love to stay near Fuji this time and want somewhere equally as traditional with a beautiful view and a private Onsen. Any recommendations of ryokans that offer a full dining/private experience with an amazing view of the Mountain from the room would be so appreciated!

  1. I went to Kawaguchiko Onsenji Yumedono you cant see Mt Fuji from the onsen, but if you walk around outside you can.

  2. I climbed Fuji but didn’t stay at the onsen everyone recommended. I was bummed when I saw photos online.

I can’t recall the name, I suck with the language there.

  3. I have not been to Fuji and I’ve been on and off doing research for me and my BF’s trip in 2021/2022, but I’ve seen some solid onsens in the 5 lakes area and that’s what I’m aiming for. I haven’t targeted a specific place yet but I’m seeing great options at Kawaguchiko

  4. We stayed at Hakone Yuyado Zen in Mount Fuji view room. You can see the mountain from any point in the room, including from private outdoor bath. Food was amazing for both breakfast and dinner. It’s was a bit harder to get to, but well worth it. Also, it’s fun to explore Hakone.

  5. Konnansou in Kawaguchiko. There are rooms with Mountain view and rooms with Lake view. One thing to note, is depending on whether, Fuji might not be viewable with the cloud cover. My wife and I stayed there three days, and it wasn’t until the final morning that the mountain was viewable from town.

  6. Another vote for konansou. Spent $1.3k USD for two nights on the 7th floor with an onsen facing Fuji and it was worth every penny. Absolutely incredible. Gotta book 3 months ahead of time and grab it as soon as they go up because they go fast. Go over to Fujiyama cookies while you’re there

  7. I hope you have a lot of money saved up.
Most Ryokans charge 5000-9000 yen an hour for a a private onsen. One what a view of Mt. Fuji is probably going to more.
There is also a Japanese saying something along the lines of “Mt.Fuji is shy” meaning there is a likely chance you might not be able to see it on certain days.

  8. Green plaza hotel in Hakone!
We stayed there and the day we arrived Fuji was exposed and looked absolutely incredible! The next morning we woke up and it was gone. But as the evening came there clouds cleared and it was there, so beautiful. My now husband proposed to me there and we had a private onsen. It didn’t quite overlook it, but you could see Fuji from
The window! Beautiful hotel and it connects to a cable cars thing which takes you up Mt Hakone and you can see the volcanic Centre and Fuji from there too!

  9. In the interest of not starting a separate thread asking more or less the same question, do private onsen generally not have the issues with gaijin and tattoos that public onsen frequently do or is it simply different from establishment to establishment?

Are any of the ones recommended in this thread tattoo/gaijin friendly? My wife and I don’t have sleeves or anything but we both have too many to cover without looking like strangely specific burn victims.

  10. So it’s not super traditional, but my husband and I absolutely loved our stay at Mizno Hotel in Kawaguchiko. The hotel itself is stunning and has this cool old-fashioned artsy/jazzy vibe. The rooms are simple and clean and all have a view of Mt. Fuji. There is a private rooftop onsen that you do unfortunately have to pay extra to use, but it’s gorgeous and they give you wine at least haha. (There are separate mens and womens onsens that you can access for free, but unfortunately you won’t be able to go in together.) There’s also a rooftop bar with a view of Mt Fuji where you can go anytime. The real bonus was the food. When you book a room, you can ask for a private kaiseki dinner served in your room, and it was the best meal my husband and I had in Japan, hands down. The next morning you also get a really lovely breakfast in the dining room, which also has a Fuji view! We only had one night at Mizno unfortunately but we wish we had more time there! It was incredible. 🙂

  11. Can’t recommend Hotel Konansou enough. You will not be disappointed, I promise you that.

  12. My friends and I stayed at Sunnide Resort Yamanashi years back — every room essentially is mountain-side views – check Google maps and you’ll see its somewhat secluded from the other hotels.

The one downside is that it doesnt’ have a private onsen – its a traditional one with perfect views but shared. My friends (all 7 of us) and I managed to grab the onsen with no one else for a whole hour, saw a full moon illuminating Mt. Fuji.

Very romantic with 7 guys 😀

  13. I stayed at Takumi Yado Yoshimatsu in the Fuji view room. We could see the Fuji in there and the private onsen (was in a separate stance in our case, they have also rooms with onsen inside) was very nice. The place was super luxurious and the private dinning and breakfast was AMAZING, very tasty and traditional. We def enjoyed there:)

  14. We got private dining in our room! You had the option to order it while we were there anyway. The buffet was great when we went and the in room dinners were fantastic. Very traditional and modern.
