[KANSAI] What is your recent Visa renewal time from submission to postcard being delivered?

4th time renewing spouse visa, and has always been 2-3 weeks for the postcard to be delivered, this time it has already taken 5 weeks, anyone else experiencing delays recently?

Wife is starting to worry, if it doesn’t come next week, is it worth phoning immigration to check to see if they have sent the postcard for collection in case it got lost in the post?

No changes in wife, house, nor job so can only assume there are more applications recently causing a backlog in the dinosaur system they have.

How long did yours take if you submitted recently?
Thanks if you can share any info

  1. I’m not in kansai, but in the chugoku region (relatively close to the border), recently renewed my work visa and the postcard only took a week. The immigration office was pretty much empty both times I went too.

  2. I asked a friend which renewed recently :

    – around a month to get the postcard

    – less than 10 days as dealine to show up

    – between 3 and 4 hours in immigration

So, I think they are quite busy and you better phone to make sure your card did not get lost.

    Good luck.

  3. Which office is your application at, Osaka seems to take longer than Kobe.

    Anyway hope you hear soon.

  4. I left the immigration office went drinking and came home the next morning to a postcard saying I’m the president of gaijin.

    Jk like 2 months (ibaraki)

  5. My immigration lawyer told me when I changed to a spouse visa last year that they are getting through a backlog. Borders reopened in October, they got about as much advance warning as the rest of us and are still playing catch-up.

Definitely give them a ring to see if the application is still being processed if you’re concerned, better safe than sorry!

  6. Recently renewed my Spousal visa online. I applied April 19, got an email to mail docs May 18th. Received my Zairyu card last week. Renewing my number cards next week. So, it took approximately a month.

  7. When I renewed my last spouse visa last year it took like 10 days max but that was before they opened the borders.
Now it took 5 weeks and we applied two months before my visa running out (better early than too late or last minute…). That was in Tokyo – Tachikawa

  8. Mine took like 6 weeks earlier this year, which was longer than usual too. Tokyo though

  9. Osaka immigration in March took about two weeks for the postcard to come, 2.5 hours to pick up.

  10. Had to go through that pain in Tokyo. It took me like 5-6 weeks to get a post card back. Buddy in Osaka also had to wait the same amount of time. This was in March though, but I heard that immigrations has been extraordinarily backed up (or maybe this is how it always was pre-pandemic? Idk).

  11. Kansai (Kobe): submitted an application to renew on Feb 1st, took me 6.5 weeks. They blew the deadline (zairyu card expired by one day), had to reissue MyNumber card which also took 2+ months. Extremely disappointed because all the times before the process took 3 weeks tops.

    Engineer visa, so YMMV.
