Using smart litter boxes in Japan for cats

I passed by a 222 shop in Shiga with a brand new model for ¥20,000. Previously such devices were way over budget but if it’s within that level it may be worth thinking about.

Same as this model:

I travel a lot for work and when it’s over 3 nights I need to ask a cat sitter to come help clean and care for the two cats. If it’s a long trip I need to find someone to come and house/pet sit while living in my house so it’s always a challenge. Food is less of a problem than cleaning the litter box.

I’m wondering if anyone has used these litter boxes with success and that has allowed them to extend their time away from home successfully for up to a week?

Any pros and cons?

  1. There’s no way we would leave our cats alone longer than overnight. If something happens and they lose access to water things will end very, very badly.

  2. I’d say the catsitter is still necessary for play and attention. Automatic toys and things won’t replace a human.
