Is it a concern finding two cockroaches in two days or is this normal?

Should I be concerned about a potential infestation in my apartment or is this just a typical Japanese summer?

  1. I’d say it’s a concern. They say there are usually plenty more that go unseen compared to the ones you do see. I personally used a product called One Push Pro Plus (available on JP Amazon) to bug-proof my apartment, and it seemed to work.

  2. Typical Japanese summer, unfortunately—unless you’re seeing baby ones.

  3. Depends on what floor and where you live. In some areas roaches are more commonly found. Also as some others have mentioned, it’s summer or nearly summer.
How big are those roaches? Smaller roaches are a greater concern.

  4. Sounds like you found some house dwelling roaches which could be more of a concern than the big ones that just happen to get inside by accident. If you see one again you should take a picture and post it to r/whatisthisbug. They’ll be able to give you more info.

  5. Go get black caps and put them in your apartment. If they’re small, they are breeding somewhere

I live in an older wooden house so I have to keep it really clean and use black caps. I also keep nama gomi in the freezer in the summer until I have time to throw it out

  6. It’s raining which is driving the big black cockroachs inside.

Seeing a couple is totally normal.

Now if it’s the little brown ones you might get worried.
