UQ Mobile vs Y Mobile

I’ve been using the IIJmio SIM card for a while, but I want to switch to something that actually works. Every time I receive a call I have to go outside because it doesn’t work inside buildings and on the underground. I was thinking of going to Y Mobile because their service seems pretty good, but UQ Mobile is slightly cheaper. What do you guys think about it? If you have any other recommendation of mobile network, please tell me (as long as it’s not rakuten mobile)
I live in Hokkaido, in case that matters, but IIJmio was terrible even in Tokyo

  1. Are you on IIJ D-type or A-type? If you are on A-type, then UQ probaly won’t help since it’s all au/KDDI network.

Y!Mobile is SoftBank. UQ Mobie is au/KDDI. You should check which one has more compatible band with your mobile phone.

  2. Your model doesn’t work well with, well, anything Docomo related. It’s missing half of the bands for LTE, missing out on some 5g.. yeah.

A good test before switching somewhere else is to just get Iijmio to convert you from a D-type SIM to an A-type. (They’ve also released a K-type one recently).

  3. Im a UQ mobile user. It worked well both in Hokkaido and Tokyo. Although in Hokkaido if you go to the mountains or drive on a remote road theres a chance youre not gonna get reception. For me it worked well even inside buildings, in the metro, some underground shops etc. Even on a boat off the coast of Japan (as long as you dont go too far away)

Be careful when choosing plans tho, the smallest one is cheap but only 3gb, middle is the best but youre gonna be paying more. Large only has a little bit more GB than middle. Also if you call a lot then I dont recommend it, pay per minute sucks. I usually dont call often but when I was moving or dealing with some customer service kinda stuff I usually had to pay like ¥2500-¥3000 extra just for calls alone. I did call frequently in that period but not to the point of talking on the phone everyday kinda often so Id say its really expensive if you wanna call

It could be the fault of your phone not receiving signal properly as well so Id check this if I were you

Remember that after making a contract you have cooling off period so you can always cancel within a designated number of days. For UQ I have no cancellation fee so I can cancel anytime without having to say goodbye to ¥1man or so
