Lost item on narita line somehow ended up on sotobo line

I accidentally left some items when I got off at narita airport from chiba station. I called the lost and found office and somehow someone found it and handed it in to jr kazusa ichinomiya.

How on earth did it end up there? You need to transfer trains from narita line to sotobo line at chiba station if you go to kazusa ichinomiya. Either the person found it on narita line and decided to take it with them to the sotobo line or does the same specific train operate on different lines?

Description of the items I lost (some very specific) match something they found at kazusa ishinomiya. So they said they’ll mail it to me. I wont celebrate yet until I receive it. Am I being too pessimistic?

  2. Maybe they didn’t have time to take it to lost and found until they finished all their transfers.

  3. My son left a train museum souvenir on the Sobu line near Funabashi, and it ended up in Yokosuka. We got it back within a few days.

    My guess is that your train maybe went to a yard near Kazusa-Ichinomiya at the end of the day, and a worker retrieved the item when cleaning the train?

  4. Just my guess but… The Narita Line train you took split up after it returned to Chiba Station.

    After dropping off passengers at the airport, the train made its way back towards Chiba Station. At Chiba Station, the train split with the front cars continuing west towards Tokyo, while the back cars went south via Sotobo Line. Or vice versa.

    A passenger who got on somewhere, found your item and exited at Kazusa-Ichinomoya and turned it in there.

  5. Some trains do operate (change) to a different lines. Sometimes, only some wagons are transferred

If your train was either 11 or 15 carriages long with blue and white stripes and two “Green Cars,” that’s the [E217](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E217_series) or [E235](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E235_series#E235-1000_series) Series. Those trains are mainly used on Yokosuka Line and Sobu Line (Rapid Service). Every hour or so there is a train that goes directly onto Sobu/Narita Lines to the airport from Yokosuka Line. Also once an hour or so, a Yokosuka Line train either goess as far as Kimitsu on the Uchibo Line or Kazusa-Ichinomiya on Sotobo Line across the Tokyo Bay.

    When your train terminated at Narita Airport, its next destination would’ve been Kurihama on Yokosuka Line in Kanagwa, from where it might have done a few laps of the regular Kurihama-Tokyo-Chiba route before it was assigned to a “through-service” run from Kurihama all the way to Kazusa-Ichinomiya, where it stayed the night and was cleaned.

    The [E209](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/209_series#209-2000/2100_series) Series with yellow and blue lines without a “Green Car” are a rolling stock shared among pretty much all the electrified lines in the prefecture beyond Chiba Station, including the Narita and Uchibo Lines.

    Of course it’s possible that your item didn’t get there on its own and it was at the mercy of where the good samaritan was headed.
