Hi everyone! I have a job interview for a tech job later this week and I was wondering if interview follow-ups are a thing here? Have you guys sent any when you were interviewing? Thanks in advance! 😀
100% you should follow up with at least a ‘thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule’.
Using correct name and company position of your interviewer(s) is a plus.

When discussing workplace courtesy with some other friends (we all work in larger companies, in different fields from food ingredient manufacturing to furniture, etc.) most companies have a policy (whether actually written or not) to acknowledge receipt / thanks for messages.

Asking for a timeline of next steps depends on the company (more newer ones are probably fine here but older Japanese companies maybe not)
It sounds like basic courtesy. But at my company it would have zero impact on hiring, because the email would go to the HR recruiter while hiring decisions are made by engineering. Maybe if the HR person forwarded us the email, but I’ve never seen that happen.
OTOH I think it’s fine to connect to your interviewer via LinkedIn and then say thanks. Others probably have different views though.
I never do it and I’m very successful at interviews.
Imagine being on the other side of it and receiving totally unnecessary emails from all the candidates, it’s very annoying.
Keep it short, simple, polite and professional – absolutely can’t harm your chances.
I think that it will be appreciated, but won’t affect your chances in any way. The person at the company in direct contact with you is not going to be the person making the decision.
As someone who used to hire people here in Japan I would get the emails forwarded by hr and always appreciated them. It does leave a good impression

It’s meh. Wouldn’t hurt or help in my opinion.
