So I went to submit my spouse visa extension application today. Spouse accompanied me because they had the day off. The immigration officer asked to see spouse’s driver’s license and took a copy before giving it back. This has never happened before. We’re now wondering what it meant (if it meant anything at all). The rest of the submission went as usual. Has anyone had this happen before and can enlighten us?

Drivers license is a common form of ID. You had an overeager clerk or they felt the need to confirm her identity. I asked my wife if she ever had to show her ID and she also doesn’t recall. I don’t think it’s going to be a problem.
I’d be willing to give them my first born to make it stop.
“There haven’t actually been any problems and the staff did something totally normal, but I want to know what it means.”
It happens sometimes. If you used a service to apply, they need to sign the application as well, so they were checking if she was a part of the service.

It means the immigration guy decided they wanted a copy of your wife’s drivers license. That’s exactly what it means.
