To anyone that watched it, star-making performance for Wato or nah? Going to watch it later
Man, if you told me 3 years ago that the man who had possibly the worst debut in NJPW would go and win the BOSJ before Despy, Robbie, Roppongi 3K, ELP, and Ishimori, I’d call you bonkers.
I mean, between the two left, he was the most logical choice. It is nice to see that he’s finally getting some recognition for all the hard work he has put in. Wato now has an accolade even Despy has not achieved. If Despy wasn’t going to win, a homegrown younger star like Yoh or Wato was probably the way to go.
I think this is more evidence Gedo has realized he needs to start pushing the younger generation of stars this year and establishing them now. If they’re going to ever get over, they need to be in more prominent roles. I think Wato MAJORLY needs a character glow-up if we’re going to really take him seriously, but it’s a start to have him gunning for a top championship in one of NJPW’s top 2 shows of the year.
I have nothing but joy in my heart. Master Wato has finally done it. From all those years ago, he’s finally made it!
