How many lessons do you do a day on WaniKani?

Hello,

I’m doing about 3-4 lessons a day on WaniKani because I don’t have much time right now. Is that too little? I also wanted to ask when I should start learning grammar, because I already have the Genki textbooks with me.

Thanks!

  1. Personally, I don’t think 4 is too little. You could always do more, but except way more reviews. Do it at your own pace. Try doing a lot of lessons at once see how that works out, to determine your pace.

Also, I say start learning grammar as soon as you can, it’s the most important part of a language.

  2. My work is insanely slow to where I have multiple hours of downtime a day, so I’ve been flying through wanikani. But I think if you’re being steady with it like that then you’re doing a solid job!

  3. Any amount is fine. I usually do all of them at once. I don’t like to keep them in lessons. The sooner I get it to reviews the sooner I can relax. You can do one level in about a week or less if you were to get the answers right.

As for Genki, you should do it at any rate you want.

  4. I do all of my lessons as soon as they are available. But obviously it depends on personal preference.

  5. As far as I remember, the fastest leveling up duration is approximately 7 days. But in reality many people might level up within 15-30 days. I don’t have the statistics but I believe if you manage to level up in a month that’s normal progress for the majority of people. For me, I’m on the slower path right now taking averagely 45-60 days per level.

  6. i bang all my lessons out as soon as they appear but for reviews on an average day i have like 150 but if i skip a day like 200-250. – level 30 WK

  7. I do 10 usually. When I have little to no time, I still do 5 lessons a day.

If your goal is to get through Wanikani is a reasonable time like 2 years, then 3-4 lessons a day is too little, but if you don’t mind spending 4-5 years on it, you can take your time.

It is my suggestion that people start learning grammar as soon as possible, since it also helps with understanding the wanikani example sentences for vocabulary. It also helps with remembering vocabulary that is actually a phrase (with grammar included in it).

I even think it’s best to start grammar before starting Wanikani, but that’s debatable.

  8. I tend to max out at 20 lessons per day. This means I often have days with no lessons pending at at level 12 I have 150-200 reviews/day which takes me 20ish minutes

  9. At the end of the day, just do what you can. Better to do something than nothing.

But you should probably be aware of the time that will take.

There’s about 6000 vocab and 2000 Kanji. At 4 lessons per day it would take you 2000 days, or over 5 years to complete 8000 lessons.
