Missed SMBC Credit card payments

My credit card payment date for SMBC is set to the 26th of every month. But, this month (May 26th) I could not pay the credit card bills because my bank balance was insufficient.

I have not received any emails or letters from the bank yet.

Do you guys know what would happen in such a case?

I’ll have the money on May 31st. Will they deduct it then or on June 10th?

Do I need to go to the bank and pay in person?

Any help is appreciated. Thank you. 🙂

EDIT:
Thank you, guys, very much for all your help. I borrowed just enough money from my friend so that it covers the credit card debt and it got automatically deducted at midnight (May 31 00:00:00).

I only used the VPASS app before this post but after logging into the https://www.smbc-card.com/ it was clearly mentioned that some payments were not successful due to insufficient balance and they will try every business day to deduct it.

I am not sure how this will affect my credit score TBH. I’ve never missed a payment since I got an SMBC account back in 2019.

  1. They will try to deduct it every day until it comes out. If you never pay it, they will send you a conbini payment sheet and a notice that you may have your card canceled next time this happens.

  2. They won’t wait to deduct it on the 10th because you set your withdrawal date to the 26th. They will call you and ask you to wire the amount. If they don’t, you can do the transfer yourself and call them afterwards. Till then you probably won’t be able to use your card.
Source: Missed the payment 3 times at least.

  3. Call and tell them what is going on. Then they will instruct you the account number to transfer to. You can tell them you’ll pay on the 31st and save yourself a lot of trouble.

Missed card payments can and will effect your ability to rent apartments (the most important one), get a cell phone, or a home loan. If you have some absolute emergency and need to put something on a card, but don’t have the funds to cover it at least do bunkatsu barai and pay the interest on it later. Some cards don’t even have interest if it’s only split into 2-3 payments.

  4. Depends on the card company.
As mentioned some will keep trying each day.
Some will try on a specified following day.
Some will just send the payment slip.

Check your T and C for your card company.

  5. They will usually send you a payment slip that you can pay at the Konbini. Make sure you pay that slip though or else you will get a bad credit mark for that month and will affect you for future loans and such.

  6. The card company will keep deducting money every moment, every hour, or everyday(It depends on their system). What you need is to call the credit card company and tell them when preciously you deposit enough money. Your delay information might have been already registered .

  7. You can’t use your card until you pay, and they’ll try to automatically deduct it from your account again in June 5th. At least that’s what happened when I missed a payment.

However, you can call them and they’ll send you the bank information so you can do a transfer and recover access quickly.

  8. Call them immediately in the morning you get the money.
Tell them you forgot to transfer the money from your payroll account to the other account and apologize profusely.

They will probably offer to take the money again or else give you an option to send it by furikomi. Depending on the card you can sometimes pay in cash to an ATM.

If it’s only once and it’s only my a few days they probably won’t ding your credit score.

  9. Your CC will be frozen and they will send you a slip to pay at a convenience store or post office. Once paid, the CC will be unfrozen.

  10. Regarding your additional question about credit score
    – anecdotally only, since it differs from institution to institution – usually it will not impact your “public” score if you settees within the month.

It might, however, as others already pointed out, affect your credit worthiness within SMBC and increase of credit limit etc might get declined. If it would affect card renewals I don’t know.
