Moved in in Nara, any tips on what to do after work?

Hello everyone!

As you may know, a lot of things close super early in Japan even restaurants so I’d love to get advice on places, or activities to go to and do after work so from between 8pm and 2-3am!

I know there are Bowling (round 1), bars, onsen, and karaoke.

Any other ideas?

I’d love to go to the cinema but around this area nothing airs after 9pm ..

    In Nara, yes.

If you’re in Nara City, hop on the train and go to Namba. Everything open late, movies, etc. Just don’t miss last train.

  2. Leave Nara.

My in-laws live there and wife hates going there (I don’t say anything).

  3. Check City Hall for information on free Japanese classes for foreigners.

  4. Wait a minute, do people actually *live* in Nara?

I mean, it’s nice and all, and my old boss was from there, but he lived in Tokyo.

  5. Where in Nara?

There are some bars between Kintetsu Nara and JR Nara. One of them had some amazing Umeshuu, another on the second level in the shopping area between Sanjo dori and kintetsu has a great nomihoudai. The owner of Western is super friendly and the tower beers are great.

I don’t know much around Yamato saidaiji and shinomiya(I think are the other two stations) but the izakayas there are much more local, but still friendly in general.

Bars mostly close at midnight just before the final train to Osaka departs. There is a net cafe in the sanjodori area if you get caught out late, and Kintetsu / JR have taxis until 1 am at least. There is also one Oden restaurant in Nara machi that was open til 2 am somewhere, but I never found it sober.

  6. Welcome to Nara! I have been living here for almost 3 years.

If you’re looking for nightlife, you might want to check out 新大宮駅 (Shin-ÅŒmiya Station). There are lots of bars, yakiniku restaurants, and izakayas in that area.

  7. Nifty kaku-uchi (like a bottle shop + standing bar) serves sake from every brewery in Nara prefecture: Nara Izumi YÅ«sai

  8. Name checks out. Anyway…

Go to Dobutsen-Mae Station. Exit 2. Walk through the old shopping arcade. Turn left when you see the public bath and keep walking. You’ll see many streets on your left.

    You’re welcome.

  9. Go to bed. Wake up at 5AM. Go cycling in those beautiful mountains to your east.

  10. Takanohara has a movie theater right next to the station. It’s 2 stations north of Saidaiji on the Kyoto line.
Koriyama has a good theater in the Aeon mall as well.
Kashihara has 2 movie theaters one 4x theater is near Ninokuchi station.

  11. I lived in rural Nara for about 3 years. When I wasn’t working I used to roam the mountains, until an old lady saw me emerge from the forest and said that I should watch out for bears. I then got heavily into online gaming, so, there’s that?
